![]() ![]() Make the Chinese Lantern Festival a stop on your list. The Festival and park aren't going to take a lot of your time, but it's great to have a different reason to go to Franklin Square other than just to wonder around a green space. ![]() Each event is equipped with an experienced staff of lantern chasers who retrieve and gather sky lanterns for 48 hours after the event to ensure grounds are left clean and undisturbed. There are entertainers, food and craftsmen, too, so there's something for every age and gender to enjoy. The lanterns are 100 biodegradable, flame retardant, and contain a fuel cell designed to fully burn out before the lantern returns to the earth's surface. Dragons, pandas and other animals are enchanting while flowers and straight up lanterns make you ooh and aah at the beauty and wonder of the colors and fabrics illuminated to perfection. The Chinese Lantern Festival showcases many different types of Chinese culture and lanterns in beautiful displays. Then again, everything "public" is overpriced in Philadelphia. I have not seen the park not illuminated and decorated for this event, but what I can tell you is that going to Franklin Square during the Lantern Festival is very much worth the trip, even if $17 is a little steep for admission. From mid-April to mid-June, the park is transformed for the Chinese Lantern Festival. There was something for everyone.įranklin Square is a multi-use park in the center of Philadelphia very near all of the other main Philadelphia attractions. You can also get a bite to eat and a beer if you like. Franklin Square also has a Philadelphia themed miniature golf course and a carousel but you have to pay for these. There are vendors around the park for Chinese crafts. ![]() Tip: You don't want to miss the performers so find out the show time and get yourself a patch of grass to sit on for the show. it was nice to stroll around an go from one wonder to the next. The displays are all around the park and are beautiful. It is $17 for and adult ticket but check Groupon if you have time. The popular Chinese Lantern Festival returns to the square for 2018r, featuring 1,500 illuminated creations and 15,000 LED lights in brilliant colors. My wife managed to order the tickets while waiting in line so that all worked out. Among Philly’s Summer Classics: The Roots Picnic, Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival & Odunde. There is some street spots that are free after 7:00 pm, otherwise you can park under the Constitution Center. I dropped my family off on Sixth Street and went to drive around to find parking. The Sixth Street line was for people who already had tickets and Race Street was for people buying tickets. There are two lines to get in so be careful.
